The Dormer A520 stub length, ADX point, is a round shank drill bit made of HSS with a TiN physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating. ADX point geometry provides efficient cutting action and positional accuracy. Designed for high productivity, excellent swarf (chips, debris or waste resulting from drilling) removal, and accurate holes to H9 tolerance. Best usage in numerical control (NC) or computer numerical control (CNC) applications where high productivity and accurate holes are a must. It is suitable for drilling to a depth up to two-and-a-half times the diameter of the drill. The shank diameter is the same as the drill size. It was designed for drilling holes into a wide variety of substances with best performance in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, copper, aluminum magnesium, and synthetic materials.

The A520 series has a faster than normal helix angle for efficient swarf evacuation. The 130-degree, notch-thinned point with convex cutting edge offers easier workplace penetration, improved hole size, and accurate centering when starting the hole. The helix has been optimized across the entire drill bit diameter for added stiffness. The TiN PVD coating resists flank and crater wear, has low friction, and increased cutting speeds. HSS ADX drills offer several times the productivity of uncoated drills.

Drilling, or hole making, is the most common metalworking operation in the world. Twist drill bits are the most common type of drill bit used. Twist drill bits are commonly used to drill holes with hand-operated drills, standalone drill presses, or lathes. The flutes of the drill bit act a passageway for chip extraction from the hole and for coolant to enter the hole. These drill bits have a right-hand twist that brings chips up and away from the cutting edge. They are made to DIN 1897 industry standards (metric sizing), which helps ensure that drill bits around the world, conform to the same specifications.

Precision manufactures machine tools under the following brands: Precision Twist, Precision Dormer, and Union Butterfield. They have locations around the world, and provide tools adhering to ANSI, NAS, and DIN standards.
